'88 SSP - Lots of work - Tons of fun
« on: Friday, April 08, 2011, 09:15 PM »
Alright guys.  Here's my excuse.  While you were all being bombarded with spam, I was flying to Portland to pick up this car.  I found it on Craigslist.  The ad said $4,000 firm.  I called the guy and talked him down a little.

It's an '88 Oregon State Police car.  It never had any holes drilled in it, so I don't know if it was ever put into service.  It's a 5 speed, and I was told it has a new Center Force dual friction clutch.  Not sure if that's true, but the clutch is very strong.  It also has a Pro 5.0 shifter.  Now lets get to the good stuff.  Sitting on top of the engine is a Kenne Bell Flowzilla supercharger.  The only problem with it, is the guy never did any additional work like the computer, injectors, FP regulator, etc.  So the car pulls pretty well until about 5k, then it runs out of fuel.

Now for some pictures.  She's a little rough, but overall pretty straight.

I drove the car all the way home from Portland.  I averaged 24 MPG @ around 70-75 MPH.  This is the kinda weather I went through.

Now for the really crazy part.  I went to register the car and walked outside to do the VIN inspection with the lady from the DMV.  When we walked out, there was a kid looking over the car really heavily.  He looks at me and says, "When did you buy this car"?  I said, "Yesterday".  He say's, "Did you get it in Portland"?
(Me) Yep.
(Him) You gotta be kidding me.  I sold this car to a guy, a month ago.
(DMV Clerk laughing her ass off)  It's a small world.
(Him) Does it still have the supercharger?
(Me) Yeah.
(Him) Oh man.  I did all the work to this car.  If you ever want to sell it, get ahold of me.
(Me) I run a fox body website, here's a couple stickers.  If I ever get rid of the car, I'll post it there first.

I asked him a couple questions about the car and stupidly, didn't get his #.  I know his name is Royce, so if any of you guys run into him make sure to either give him my # or get his.  His girlfriend was telling me that he didn't want to sell the car, but they had to get to Idaho.

Wow. With a blower for $3500 that is a deal. You're not kidding though it's definitely a little rough, but nothing the AJ treatment cant cure. Runs darn good too 24mpg means something is working right. Congrats man, you now have a Fox to cruise with us in, and it should be a strong one too. How funny running into the previous owner randomly though, small world. Hopefully he signs up and you can keep in touch with him. Let me know if you ever need any help with that thing, I'll hook you up!

Thanks guys, I'm totally stoked.  I put a front u-joint in it and it rides smooth as glass.  When I had it up on the lift I checked out all the bushings and it looks like most of them should be good for a while.  It's exactly what I was looking for.  Dependable enough to drive and something I can build into my own.
